APEG (Association of Professional Engineers and
Geoscientists)
APEG strongly supports the work of FSSS and Andy Mill head of APEG’s
Seismic Task Force (also concerned father) came to government with
FSSS to help lay out new solutions to this problem. They have
proposed a standardized, peer-reviewed methodology to assess and
address seismic risk to the province’s schools: A School Building
Seismic Safety Program. (View letter: page

Seismic Resolutions 2003:
BCCPAC (BC Coalition of Parent Advisory Councils):
Resolution #6 - Slow Pace of Seismic Upgrading - SUBMITTED BY: David
Livingstone PAC, Vancouver
BE IT RESOLVED that BCCPAC will stress to the provincial government
that the current slow pace of structural seismic upgrading of our public
schools greatly increases the risks of death or serious injury to tens of
thousands of BC students and that BCCPAC will therefore urge the BC
government to explore all possible avenues to expedite structural seismic
upgrading of our public schools as a prior
BCSTA (BC School Trustees Association):
Be it resolved that: The BCSTA request the provincial government to
continue to provide adequate funding for structural and non-structural
seismic school improvement, so that all schools that are situated in
high-risk earthquake zones and are not constructed to withstand seismic
disturbances receive seismic upgrading without delay.
